How we price, how long a move takes, and how to pack so moving day hops along.
Moving Guides
General
This page is a guide only – every household is a unique moving situation. Use our booking form to help itemise your moving needs, and talk to us for further help.
Do we offer free quotes?
Yes. We provide free, no-obligation quotes. Use our booking form, or call to talk with us.
How is pricing calculated?
We price based on an estimate of the time to move your household furnishings. Travel is typically only charged between your old and new residence. If travel time is likely to exceed an hour to reach or leave the job, we may quote for travel to and from your job.
Do you charge in full hours?
No. We charge in quarter-hour increments, and at the end of the job we round back to the quarter hour, saving you time and money.
If the job finished at 12 minutes past 12 on the clock, we would wind back to 12. You only pay for completed quarter hours.
A 2 bedroom apartment could take 1 day, or up to 3 days to relocate – each household is different, with different removal needs and different travel times.
Use the breakdown below to organise your move into sections, then use the booking form to estimate how long the part RooMoverRoo typically does will take (the dashed box). We can help with it all!

You’ll notice “Removing + Cleaning” are combined – think about your team on the big day. The removalists do the heavy lifting, which could leave you free to clean and save time.
Have a think about the workflow above and how you would like to move. Talk to us and we can plan together!
These are the main “equipment” rooms of the home, with lots of bits and bobs. Thankfully, most of them are small. Again, everyone’s situation is different – imagine unpacking one cupboard or drawer into a box, and then multiply it by the compartments in your kitchen.
Bedrooms
Most of the items for packing are clothes and linen. This is a good place to practise some tidy packing hacks:
Use a sheet to wrap up swathes of hanger items, so you can just hang them straight back up.
Reserve your pillows and doonas for wrapping and cushioning fragile items like large electronics.
Note the items – Fine china, lounge cushions, books
Note any specific information – Fragile, Keep upright, Heavy
Protection
Where possible, use your soft items to protect valuables. This saves you money on packing materials and helps our environment.
Be sure to protect your precious valuables as well – use bubble wrap and packaging paper where appropriate. Avoid plastic wrap as it can trap moisture; there are great cardboard alternatives at most hardware stores.
Moving hacks
Take clothes off the hanger, fold them over and pack them into suitcases or a sheet.
Storing long term?
Do you have something you know you’ll need pretty soon? Will other things not be touched for years? Organise accordingly, tell RooMoverRoo which items you need easy access to, and label the box with this information. That way we can keep it at the front of the pile for you!
If your building has a lift, be sure to notify the building manager of your moving day and ensure the lift is fitted with protection mats.
The closer our truck is to your front door, the better we can move you and save you money! Reserve a space for the moving truck, and have a clear pathway ready.
If in an apartment complex, let the strata / building manager know when your move is on. You may want to let your neighbours know as well.
On the day
On the big day our team will call you when they are on their way. If we don’t get onto you, we’ll text you. We’ll confirm our ETA and go over the job one more time to make sure the move is smooth and efficient!
Rainy day
Unless the weather poses a significant risk of damage to property or unmanageable safe working conditions, the job will still go ahead. If the weather looks very poor, we’ll talk to you on the day and manage as best we can. Our aim is always to get your job done.
Communication
Communication is key to any relationship. If you have any concerns, talk to our team – we’re here to help!
